A Collection of Glass Jars
These lovely glass jars sit on top of a great old dresser that has been painted white. They are used every day for storing flour, sugar, rice, chick peas, brown sugar and all the usual things stored in jars in a kitchen. The majority of these jars were purchased in one hit at a second hand shop in Smythesdale, just outside Ballarat and on the way to Hamilton.
The different sizes and shapes of the jars and the different lids just add to the usefulness and loveliness of the collection!

These canisters for storing flour, sugar, rice, tea and coffee aren’t perfect. But having found them, I love them, and I improved their appearance significantly by cleaning them thoroughly with hot soapy water and then lightly waxing them with cabinet makers wax. Waxing brought out the old patina in the plastic. There is still some immovable rust on the lettering but they are now clean and usable and useful.
I store these containers up high in the kitchen. And as they are not really accessible for every day use they are filled with cookie cutters – something I only use every couple of months.
